Pull request previews are now off by default. A preview gets only the plain variables you list, and never a secret's value. New projects start with previews off. Turn them on for a project, or for one service, when you want them.
- Secrets: a preview gets their names, with empty values.
- Plain variables: a preview gets their names only, unless you list them in
preview_copy.- A secret, a value that looks like a credential, and an address of your own services can't be listed.
- Listed values go only to pull requests from the repository by someone who can write to it.
- Existing projects: on November 8, 2026, previews were switched off on projects with at most one environment where nobody had chosen a setting and no preview was open. Turn previews back on at any time.
- Forks: a pull request from a fork never gets a preview.
