Connect a domain managed at Namecheap
This guide covers domains whose DNS is managed at Namecheap (BasicDNS / Namecheap Web Hosting DNS). Before you start, add your custom domain in ComputeSphere and copy your service URL — for example d-silver-cobra-ab12c.computesphere.app.
A subdomain takes a CNAME record and a root domain takes an ALIAS record. Both point at your service URL, so there are no IP addresses to copy.
Connect a subdomain
Use this for www.example.com, app.example.com, api.example.com, etc.
-
Sign in to Namecheap and go to Domain List.
-
Find your domain and click Manage.
-
Open the Advanced DNS tab.
-
Under Host Records, click Add New Record and enter:
Field Value Type CNAME RecordHost the subdomain only — e.g. www(orapp, api)Value your service URL — d-silver-cobra-ab12c.computesphere.appTTL Automatic -
Click the green checkmark to save.
Enter only the subdomain in the Host field — www, not www.example.com. Namecheap appends your domain automatically.
Connect a root (apex) domain
A root domain (example.com) can't take a CNAME. On Namecheap, use an ALIAS record, which does the same job at the root — no www redirect needed.
-
Under Advanced DNS → Host Records, remove any
A,AAAA,CNAMEorURL Redirectrecord whose Host is@(a new domain usually has a parking record there). AnALIASrecord can't share the root with them. -
Click Add New Record and enter:
Field Value Type ALIAS RecordHost @Value your service URL — d-hello-web-3f9c2a71.computesphere.appTTL 5 min -
Click the green checkmark to save.
The root domain is now served directly. ComputeSphere issues and renews its SSL certificate automatically.
www too? When you add a root domain, ComputeSphere adds www.example.com with it. Add a CNAME for www as well (see Connect a subdomain) so both go live.
A and AAAA records? You can point the root at ComputeSphere's IP addresses instead: add every A and AAAA address shown in Root / apex domains with Host @. Use either the ALIAS record or the address records, not both.
After you save
Return to Console → Domains in ComputeSphere. The domain moves from Validating to Active once the record resolves and the SSL certificate is issued — usually within a few minutes, though DNS can take longer to propagate. You don't upload or manage a certificate; ComputeSphere issues and renews it automatically.
